Girly: february favorites

Last month I got many new skincare products. For some unknown reason, my skin got extra sensitive at the beginning of the month (red veins, extra dry and bumpy), so I was desperate looking for something to rescue my skin. And these are what I got and I absolutely love them

Favorite skincare products:

Avene hydrance optimale riche. It’s a thick moisturizer that is designed for sensitive skin that helps dry skin restore its hydrolypidic barrier and maintain its moisture balance. I use a quarter size of it all over my face and neck. For the first few nights, I even apply it twice just to let my skin to soak the moisture.  After few days of use, my skin went back to normal.

Once a week I’ve been using this combo for gentle exfoliation

dermalogica daily microfoliant: a gentle, Rice-based exfoliating powder that activates upon contact with water that micro-exfoliate dead cells, instantly leaving skin smoother and brighter. I got this as sample a while ago and just started using it. It’s really gentle and even in my sensitive skin it feels really nice.

body shop honey & oat scrub: I’ve been using this on and off for years. I don’t know if it’s effective or not, but really enjoy the smell and feel on the skin.

Two skin ceuticals serums:

Hydrating b5 gel: it’ known to help with tissue repair, it replenishes nutrients the skin needs to feel smooth and appear younger. This moisture-enhancing gel contains hyaluronic acid, the body’s natural hydrator, to bind moisture to the skin. I’ve been using it every night right after the toner. Combined with the avene moisturizer, it leaves my skin really moisturized and smooth.

C E ferulic: this one has won many awards over the years. It’s a potent antioxidant. It delivers advanced protection against photoaging by neutralizing free radicals and boosting collagen synthesis. Since once you apply it, it stays in the skin for 3 days (you can’t wash it off! how cool is that), I use it every other day. I’ve read a lot of people reviewing it and they swear by it, so I finally decided to try it. So far, it feels good on the skin, whether it prevents aging or not needs more time to be judged.

one more skin serum

caudalie vinosource serum SOS thirst quenching serum: it’s supposed to continuously captures and diffuse water deep within the skin to restore its moisture balance and leave it feeling soft and fresh. When I don’t use the B5 gel I use this one before the moisturizer. Just one pump is sufficient for the face and neck. I really feel that it goes deeper into the skin and the sensation lasts beyond right after the application. Loving it! 🙂

Another old product that I neglected for a while. The coverage is very light so it’s perfect for weekend. I apply a very think layer on top of the moisturizer, some blush and ready to leave the house!

Favorite food: yogavive apple chips

I’ve been trying at least 1 or 2 new products every week and this is the one that I would repurchase. I wish they’re not so expensive so I can justify having one package everyday.

Favorite youtuber: essiebutton. This girl is from Canada and now lives in London with her bf who she met online. She does beauty reviews and empties videos. I like her because she’s funny, spontaneous, just the next-door kind of girl.

#2: rug for the living room.

IMG_6922

I wanted to get a rug for the living room for a long time until I saw this one which was on a great deal and I like the pattern.

#3 not a home improvement, but a makeup procedural improvement 😯  It’s the beauty blender

IMG_6919

An egg-shaped sponge that makes applying foundation soooo easy. After applying foundation with this, the skin is smooth, dewy and super natural look. I highly recommended it.

I started to read girl in translation. I read half of it already… fascinating! 🙂

– We went to a friend’s birthday party on Saturday at an italian restaurant. I ordered gnocchis and Star ravioli with spinach and cheese, I tried the gnocchis and decided to exchange with Star. Somehow when we went back, I got hungry again and had wonton’s at 11pm! 😯

– We went to a Chinese New Year performance at my grad school. A good friend of us played piano. As I watched the performances of some graduate students, it reminded me the five years of grad student life that I had. Although it ended just last year, but as my life has changed so much since then, it seems a long time ago.  I felt that I should have enjoyed it more that time, I shouldn’t have stressed about my research so much. But I guess it’s human nature to always focus on the downside of any moment of our lives. We tend to magnify the problem/worry and minimize the rest of it.

Q1: Do you have any must-have makeup utensil?

Q2: What do you remember the most from grad school or college life?

Girly and Food: makeup and Spanish food

On Saturday a friend of Star from Argentina came to DC.  I had an extra hour to kill before they came to pick me up for lunch, so I thought why not put some makeup for the day? I’m new to makeup (although I bought a bunch recently), after watching many videos from youtube, I finally feel confident to wear makeup 😉

The most difficult part for me is the eyes. After 10 min of “work”, that’s how I look

since I used soft colors for the yes, I used a quite dramatic red for the lip
