Everyday happiness

Location: gym

Time: 7PM (post shower)

Action: lotion application

and I thought how is it possible that this little act makes me so happy everyday?  It might sound pathetic, but it does, the 5 min post-shower-lotion-application makes me really happy~~~ I dunno… maybe I’m weird . And then I realized that there are so many little things that make me happy everyday. Things like

  • waking up rested
  • morning coffee
  • a long nap
  • a good workout
  • a movie that makes me think, like Blue Valentine
  • chat with a good friend
  • receive/write a email from a good friend
  • a clean home
  • chocolate souffle like this one

maybe they are all small things; maybe they only give me 5-10 min of happiness, but they sum up! 😀 If someone asks me what do you need to be happy? I’d say nothing. Of course I want many things, but even though I want them, I am not sure that once I have them they’ll make me happy. What I am sure is that these little-everyday-things do make me happy~~~ So instead of wanting more of things that probably make me happy, why not just let these little-everyday-things happen? 😀

I finally made a new breakfast!!! 😆

two clementines with a wrap filled with LC, pumpkin puree

and scrambled egg whites

I worked in the morning (TA duties). For lunch I add some bok choy and brown rice noodles to the chicken soup

Look the snow storm we had last night.

I went to the gym, surprisingly the gym was packed! Look for outfit prepared for the snow

For dinner I made a veggie stir fry with tahini-miso sauce

simple sauté onion, carrot, cabbage and mushrooms with oil, and add a sauce made with 2 tbsp of miso + 1 tbsp tahini + 1 tbsp mirin.

as dessert: steamed kabocha! I love this! I think my favorite kabocha is the one that has yellow-green meat (I don’t this pic does not reflect that) instead of orange because it is less sweet and the texture is more like yam.

Q: What’s your everyday happy moment?

Pick your costume!

hello people! how’s your week going? Mine just got excited! Last night I got a call from a friend who invited me to a Halloween party this Saturday! My first reaction was: do I have to wear costume? (because I’ve never wore any) she replied: “you can, but it’s not mandatory!“.  “I’m definitely wearing one!”  Next thing: I spent the rest of the night looking at costumes! 😉 I was shocked to see  sooooo many options!!! Now, I can’t decide. So, please help me out.

From left to right: Santa’s little helper, french maid, gretchen beer garden girl

Pirate wench halter, sexy nurse and major trouble army gal

Which one do you see me in?

What’s your costume this or last year?

On a less happy side… my belly is still bloated. I don’t know what’s going on, but even I don’t eat, I feel bloated. 😦 So, food-wise was kind of boring. I was too lazy to prepare anything from the petit macro

This is Star’s breakfast combo: chinese green onion pancake with sesame seed shake made with almond milk, banana and sesame seed paste

Mine: smoked tofu and pumpkin pickle (made by Star’s mom)

with oatmeal

Lunch was leftover lentil soup with added collard greens and tofu

Dinner: steamed veggies (cauliflower, collard greens, zucchini and turnip) with miso-tahini dressing

and black corn!

Star brought me a big case of black corn from China 😆

Q: Any tip to fight bloating without an apparent cause? I hope I don’t end up at the hospital this time.

Weekend happening: food, friends and fun :)

I’ve been busy last weekend trying to squeeze work while having fun with friends! 😀

After the 10 miles, I finally got into work mode. But it has been stressful. All I can think about is my thesis, everything else just happen by inertia. What I love about economics is that it has the power to catch all my attention, and what I hate about economics is that it catches all my attention. I get obsessed with a subject and can’t deviate attention to anything else. Obviously, there’s exception. Like making bread?  😉

A friend requested bread (after seeing hundred of photos in facebook) so I throw a bread party on Sunday afternoon. While I was working, I he made the dough.

this time I made Pebetes, a typical argentinean bread for sandwich. A soft oval bun with a spongy inside, and a thin toasted crust.

  • 600 g water
  • 8 tbsp butter
  • 2 lbs (6 cups) bread flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp yeast

Add the ingredients to the bread machine in this order and choose the dough cycle. After it’s done (90 min), make 25 balls and let it rise in a warm place like microwave  for an hour or until it doubles. Bake at 350 F for 20 min.

I intended to make some cheese puffs.. but they did not puff 😦 although still tasty

The bread is very spongy and soft.

the bread party setting: beers, hams and cheese. 🙂

We were 6 in total, but these two couldn’t wait to try it before others arrived 😀

Saturday I ended up in a food comma. Korea BBQ for lunch. We were 6 and we ordered 6 gigantic plates of meat plus tons of appetizers!!!. After lunch each of us went back for nap (while I actually worked for 4 hours) and we met again at night to have Thai food. Once again, I enjoyed the food,  the talk and the company 🙂

In term of homemade food. I’m obsessed with the tahini & miso sauce. A quick stir fry with the sauce

served with the perfect rice

that’s a perfect meal for me 😆

and more sauce on steamed and roasted veggies

as dessert I’ve been having white fungus and corn (love it) 😀

and lastly… a new book

I have a lot to say about this book (I read it cover to cover in <2 hours), stay tune 😉

Q: What are you obsessed about lately?
