Asian flavors & A race?

I used my new running shoes for the first time yesterday!!! I’d say it worth every penny of the 100 bucks!!! πŸ˜€ It’s light, it fits perfectly and I can tell that it provides more cushion than my previous nike. πŸ˜€

I was feeling weak yesterday, I slept a 2 hours nap (very unusual :shock:). I needed a stress reliever and a mental giveaway (my coding didn’t went well and I was in panic). I ended up doing 4.5 miles, 35’50”, 8 min/mile.

For lunch I made a japanese style meal using these

Soba salad with veggies and bonito flakes! πŸ˜€ YUM~~

I’ll definitely make it more during the summer! It’s easy and delicious!

What you need: soba, veggies, bonito flakes, bonito seasoned soy sauce (or just soy sauce), sesame oil, salt and sugar.

Method:

1) cook the soba, rise with cold water and set aside

2) cook veggies with salted water

3) prepare the sauce: 2 part of soy sauce + 1 part of sesame oil + salt + sugar

4) mix everything and top with bonito flakes!

I also made asian “pudding” using cooked white fungus with goji berries

Continued with asian flavors, dinner was chinese. I made steamed fish just like chinese restaurants.

1) Steam the fish (seasoned with salt, cooking wine and ginger) for 7 min in boiling water.

2) Heat 1 tbsp of canola oil + 2 tbsp soy sauce

3) Pour the hot oil to the steamed fish and top it with fresh scallion.

I can guarantee you that it’s AMAZING!!!

A race? Yeah~~~ I’m going to run my first 5K today! in <2 hours!!!! πŸ˜† Β As everything else that I do (like getting married?), it was 100% spontaneous decision. After I came back yesterday from the run, I was feeling the runner’s high and decided that I’d participate the 5k for autism organized by my university!!!! πŸ˜€

Raku night!

My friend arrived at 1PM from NYC. Despite the crappy day in DC, we walked from Union Station to Chinatown, and then to Lincoln Memorial and Memorial monument until it began to rain again. 😦 So we went back home, checked email and found out that I’m going to a conference in three weeks and I’ll be presenting!!! I’m still in a shocking mode :shock:. My first conference presentation, and in front of the most important people of my field! Excited and scared!

Okay. Back to food. My friend wanted to have japanese food, so I did “homework” and found that Raku has good reviews.

Most of restaurants in Bethesda were almost empty but Raku was crowded (at a Monday night)!

We ordered two appetizers: Grilled Asian BBQ Rock Octopus Mango Asian pear ConcassΓ©

both were delicious!!!! I specially like the seaweed salad… very unique combo of asian and western flavors.

Neil ordered Deluxe Udon noodles with Shrimp Tempura, Chicken, Beef. He loved it! πŸ˜€

and I ordered Wok-Charred Chilean Seabass (cooked in tons of butter) Ginger Tomato Sauce, SautΓ©ed Broccolini and Mushroom

It’s not only pretty but amazingly tasty! Seabass is my second favorite fish after Salmon but I’ve never had it cooked with a lot of butter…. incredible!!! How much I’ve missed.

It came with a bowl of rice. Japanese people know how to prepare rice. After I finished my entree I tasted one bite, I was hooked, so I finished the bowl of rice PLAIN! As my mom says, japanese rice is so good that it can be a meal by itself. πŸ™‚ So true! πŸ™‚

We finished EVERYTHING and almost had to roll back to home! πŸ˜† Β Everything was super tasty, worth every bite! I’m sooo going back to Raku! If I have to rate its food, it would be 10/10. Service: 10/10. Environment: 8/10 because it was too crowded and our table is just one inch from our neighbors’.

Today we’ll going to capital hill, smithonian and georgetown before Neil takes the train back to NYC at 2PM. It’s great to have Β friend Β from home visiting and take a break from work. I needed it to feel recharged and ready for the next “battle”. πŸ˜‰

A little girl with Mommy~~~

My mom is here with me!!! πŸ˜› It’s sooooooo good to have her besides me. I’m not longer alone! πŸ™‚ My dad is arriving tonight. The family will be reunited! :-P. I think people who can’t live with their parents close by tend to appreciate more the relationship. It’s in the human nature to what we don’t have instead of what we have. I used to be that way and still tend to be…… but I’m determinant to change that.

She didn’t arrive until 3.30PM so I spent my morning doing nothing, read a little, went to pedicure and final touches on organizing the apartment (first impression is so important :))

My appetite is still hiding with me. 😦

7AM: fiber one while checking blog. I have a confession (Maggie did yesterday): I have this habit of munching some fiber one first thing in the morning to get things moving if you know what I mean. πŸ˜‰

Mom’s review: mmmm…… It’s not that bad.. it’s drinkable! (I said inside of me: you’d better like it because you’ll going to drink it everyday ;))

Coco’s review: mmmmm….. Love it! So fresh! Love the fusion of ginger and lemon flavors.
