Life: a great week

  • Highlight of weekdays: very productive at work. I only had lunch meeting once, the other days I ate at office and got back to work right away. The feeling of being productive and accomplish something everyday, even it’s small, is really satisfying and rewarding. πŸ™‚
  • Saturday: I organized a lunch at home with my best friends from grad school. One of them is leaving the country next weekend, so I wanted us to get together once more before he departs to Canada. Since the weather was nice, we had it at the deck with our newly purchased outdoor set. I prepared some simple food like Argentinian Empanadas

used special dough for it

a filling made with onion, grounded beef, hard boiled eggs and olives.

Some appetizers

trader joe’s roasted pepper hummus

Baba ganush

tapenade (I just mixed chopped black olives with olive oil)

nuts, antipasto, brie cheese with fruit preserve

these products were sent by the company for me to review

my friend Belen also made some empanadas, these are open faced spinach and parmesan empanadas

I also made a corn frittate (recipe to come)

the table is set

my dear friends

and a salad made with mixed greens, cherry tomato, avocado, goat cheese, balsamic and olive.

My plate

the empanadas turned out to be great! My friends loved Β it and kept telling me how tasty it was.

And we had three desserts. One made by my friend’s wife Flopy, a coconut dulce de leche pie, which was amazing!!!

a fruit tart from Whole Food

and an apple pie, also from WF.

the group! we’ve been through so much together… 5-6 years of friendship under hard-working grad school environment. You can really make life long friends there! πŸ™‚

It was a great lunch. The food was great, the weather was perfect to be outdoor. And the best of all, the company of course!!! I’m a bit sad that two of my friends found job outside the US, I’ll be missing them so much!!!!

  • Sunday: I finished the book that I started on Saturday! Yes, I finished it in two days!!! It is a great book, so inspiring! Maybe I’ll do a review next weekend. πŸ™‚ So many good thoughts to share with you! πŸ™‚

I did a lot of food preparation in the afternoon, in addition to a nap! I’m back to chinese-food! You’ll see! πŸ™‚

Hope everyone had a great weekend as well.

Q1: Do you have good friends from school? How do you keep in touch with them when you graduate?Β

Life: Thanksgiving 2011, the best thanksgiving so far!!!

Thanksgiving 2011 was FABULOUS! We celebrate it with 20+ friends, some new friends, some old friends, some friends that I know I will have for life! πŸ™‚ It was soooooo much fun! I TRULY LOVE HOSTING FRIENDS AND FEEDING THEM ALL! πŸ˜†

I did some cooking the day before and some more preparation in the morning, relaxed, not stressed out at all, I even took a nap from 3-5 when guests were supposed to come at 6PM! πŸ˜‰

we had plenty of drinks, mostly alcoholic though πŸ˜‰

when guests started to arrive, I put the appetizers out

in less than an hour, most of them arrived and they surrounded the food table for a long while

I was running back and forth before dining room and kitchen, stopping between crowds of friends…. how lovely~~~~~

the star of the night was Argentinean empanadas, a classic party food

I baked some pork loin with bacon and rosemary

made a dip with feta, greek yogurt and sun dried tomato

corn bread

figazita de manteca

guacamole, ham and cheese

rugula, baby spinach, tomatoes and feta with balsamic dressing

a friend from Armenia brought a traditional salad made with beans and beets

I also made sweet potato casserole with marshmallow

couscous salad with broccoli, raisin and chickpea

empanadas were “sold” out quickly… I made several batches to feed the crowd

forgot to take pic to the pork loin, the side dish for it was rosemary glazed carrots

we had 3 pies. I made this one which went out very quickly, pecan chocolate pie

someone brought a cranberry pie

and a friend brought a banana pie which was delicious as well

Star’s friends

some of my favorite people in the US! I love them so much and I feel they’re becoming family!!! πŸ™‚

Yesterday was also Star’s 35th birthday… we celebrate it with cake and champagne while playing ping-pong until 3:30AM with our closest friends!!! 😯 YEAH~~~ It was a long night, but such a good one!!!

As tradition to this holiday… I need to say I’m thankful for having all these amazing friendsΒ in my life, without them my life would be as colorful and joyful as it is. I’m also thankful for having my parents healthy and here with me, they are so important to me. Lastly I’m thankful for having Star in my life, he’s the angel sent by God to take care of me, to protect me and to do everything in his power to make me happy. πŸ™‚

Q: Which part of the Thanksgiving did you enjoy the most?

Q: Did you do any Black Friday shopping?

Life & Girly: first dinner at the new house & outfits 3

Despite the little stress moment, I had a lot of fun hosting the first dinner at the new house!!! πŸ˜†

It was a relatively casual dinner for 2 of my friends and 3 of Star’s coworkers that helped on the moving.

This is our formal kitchen (we have another small one). As you can see, all the cabinets are white (love it!) and we have plenty of space. I promise, I will do a full tour of the house soon! πŸ™‚

wearing my favorite apron

We arrived home around 4pm from a massive shopping day, so I didn’t have time nor energy to make anything fancy and complicated, so I made the beef short ribs in red wine

appetizer were a salad (greens, goat cheese, apples and candied cashew) and roasted sausage

the view of our dinner room

the main dish. It doesn’t look so pretty but it’s delicious.

We had a lot of fun chatting and playing ping-pong at the basement-gym. Yep! We have a ping-pong table! πŸ˜€

I really really enjoy hosting dinners for my dear friends! And now that we have a big house, I can’t wait to do it more often!!!

Last week was my first week going to work from the new house, so I was trying different transportation methods, time and routes, therefore I didn’t spend much time putting up creative outfits.

Cardigan and skirt (Banana Republic)

Coat (China), blazer (Zara), pant (BR), bag (Kate Spade), sweater (BR)

shirt (BR), cardigan (China), pant (BR), bag (Tory burch)

I got a new bag!!!!! That’s another Kate Spade (love this brand, it has good quality and style bags that are affordable). It’s a simple, elegant and big bag. I picked it mainly because of the color! Loving the eclectic blue!!!

first pic from the dressing room. It’s not fully complete, so be patient to see the whole look. πŸ™‚ Coat, skirt and scarf (China), bag (Coach), boot (Nine West).

Hope everyone has a great week. My week started pretty well. I accomplished to buy a treadmill and an elliptical machine for our mini-gym with a $680 discount! YEY!!! I think I’ve became a good negotiator! hahahaha!!! πŸ˜€

Q: Do you workout at home or at the gym? how do you design your workout routine?
