Food: playing around

From time to time I feel lost in term of what to eat. I don’t want the same thing anymore (chao stir-fries), I want something exciting, fun, new, tasty and filling food to eat. So creativity and imagination (both that I’m not good at) come to play.

Since last week salad I’m hooked with avocado. I picked 4 large avocados last week and every morning the first thing I do is to check whether another one is ripped

For breakfast I’ve been having either this

I made a batch of black rice, aduki beans and barley. So I’d either add white fungus or simply avocado.

Both are YUM~

As meal, I’ve been having spinach cannelloni. For the sauce I used 1/3 cup pumpkin puree, 2 tbsp nutrtional yeast and 2 tbsp of milk.

Love this meal~~~ :) It’s so easy (just heat the frozen cannelloni and make the sauce, 5 min top) and so tasty!

Last weekend Star and I went to the farmer’s market. I’m so happy to see more fresh produce! I got a bunch of greens.

rainbow chards

sauteed in butter

steamed brussels sprouts broiled for 5 min

soft boiled egg (insert the egg into boiling water for 1-2 min, turn off the heat, cover and wait for 3 min more)

I said I’m obsessed with avocado but you only saw it in breakfast once. How come? Well… I’ve been eating a lot of salad, all massaged with 1/2 large avocado. For the dressing, I used miso/pumpkin/tahini/mustard mix. I’m loving the flavor of this dressing.

A salad with fat (avocado and tahini) and protein (salmon) is a full meal. You’d be surprised that a salad can satisfy you so much and for so long (at least 4 hrs).

Q: What’s your favorite way to eat avocado?

Being flexible & homemade food

I haven’t post about homemade food for few days. That doesn’t mean I didn’t start cooking. Although not big meals, I slowly started to visit the kitchen more often ;)

Yesterday I worked all day long, first time in 1.5 month  and I was exhausted by the end of the day. Actually after working just two hours, I wanted to quit, but I wouldn’t allow my laziness to pull me back, so I made this wonderful coffee and continued. I ended up working until 5 PM planning to go to the gym at 6.15PM, but laying down on the coach for 30 min convinced me to take a day off. Although I knew I’d feel better after working out, I just didn’t feel like going and preferred stay at home with Star and watch TV. I’m glad I learned to be flexible with myself. Being highly disciplined also means highly inflexible and it is not always a good thing. :)

okay. look this beautiful capucchino with perfectly steamed milk with dash of cinnamon. I made it at home!!!

and here’s my secret weapon: a manual steam maker

poor the hot milk

“work” (pull and down) for 1-2 min and voila, steamed milk

pour over the coffee

and add cinnamon if you like capucchino

I’ve been having this combo for breakfast over a week: homemade soy milk, steamed yam and 1 kiwi.

a lot of veggies dishes!

sauteed chinese mustard with oyster mushroom

sauteed broccoli with tofu, black fungus and dry scallops

served with brown rice and barley

in another day I made sauteed Brussels sprouts with black fungus and shiitake

steamed egg

with rice

oh….. Star and I played some childhood table game too. I won (obviously ;))!!!

Q1: Any weekend plan?

Q2 (totally random): How many hours do you sleep per day?

Answers and weekend recap

Kath tagged me with some fun questions:

  1. Which sense is your most sensitive (visual, auditory, tactile, gustatory, olfactory)? I’d say visual and gustatory… so I’m qualified to be a chef ;)
  2. Would you rather want to live in a country with seasons or in a country where it is always warm? With seasons please! I need variety!
  3. Do you prefer active (sightseeing, visiting special places) or passive (relaxing, lying on the beach) vacations? Active vacation 90% of the time.
  4. Do you think there is some kind of task you have to tackle in your life, or something you have to learn? If yes, what is it? I need to learn more about living in the present, enjoy fully everyday.
  5. Do you prefer to spend time with your family or friends? Both
  6. Are you introvert or extravert? 70% extravert but I enjoy being alone too.
  7. What music are you currently listening to? None
  8. What book are you currently reading?Three Cups of Tea
  9. Do you feel like the age you have, or older / younger? Younger
  10. Which is your favorite way to spend a free evening? It depends on my energy level. If I’m rested, I’d go out with Star for dinner and movie; if I’m tired, I’d stay in with Star to watch TV. I enjoy both of these.

My weekend started on Friday night. After three years of Hiatus… I finally got back to TANGO!

yes~ don’t be so surprised! I used to dance Tango. I took class and danced regularly for two years! And then.. life got busy and tango was the first thing to go. Just recently, I felt the urge to dance again. At the same time my dance partner asked me if I want to dance again ;) Such a coincidence! So this Friday was my debut and it was so much fun!

Saturday: groceries and “the next three day”.

Sunday: Star and I went to Le pain quotitdien

and then we went to the farmer’s market

IMG_0177.JPG IMG_0178.JPG

I finally found purple cauliflowers!!! :D I was jumping around like a kid asking Star if we can get all of them ;)

and then I cooked. This doesn’t look very appetizing but according to Star, it’s fantastic!

Dried vegetable and pork belly in a red sauce (霉干菜烧肉)

over rice and accompanied by bok choy

for me, I finally made a gigantic bowl of warm salad (haven’t had this for ages!!!)

stir-fry of onion, Brussels sprouts, orange cauliflower and carrots with tahini and soy sauce, over spring mix, topped with heart of palm.

And then…. I read and snacked

oh… I got a new set of PJs in Gap

Q: What are you thankful? And what are you looking for? I’m thankful for everything I have. I’m looking for a new life to start next year once I get a job! :)
