Food: meals of the week

I’m having a lot of fun trying new dishes lately, I guess you’re enjoying reading them, aren’t you? 😉

Stir-fry veggies (onion, brussel sprouts, asparagus, spinach, tofu) with Tj’s thai sauce, served with brown rice

I used to love this sauce, I could eat it everyday, so I got it again. Unfortunately I was not obsessed with it this time.

笋烧肉 (red sauced pork with bamboo), my mom’s favorite

IMG_6975

black chicken soup with black fungus and shiitake mushroom, a very nutritious soup that I have at least once a month.

mung bean sprouts sautéed with chili, a recent favorite dish of mine

IMG_6977

the usual suspect, sautéed bok choy

Opss…. I asked for more one-pot meal

IMG_6994

had it with a soup made with tomato and spinach

IMG_6995

I’m loving rice with soup lately. I’m not usually a soup person, but I’ve been asking for more soup to mom lately! Sometime, I even feel I can’t have a meal without soup. 🙂

IMG_6996

After that meal, I had 2 times of this: 1 bowl of one-pot meal cooked with shredded chinese cabbage and chili sauce (菜泡饭). I’m in love of this combo!!! I had at least 5 times over the last two weeks and still want more.

Food: woman soup and mini project

Last monday I stayed at home alone because I had a day off and Star had to work. I prepared a post-period soup for myself. 🙂

IMG_5959.JPG

I used this chinese herbal mix

IMG_5960.JPG

it comes with a linen bag and the herbs

IMG_5961.JPG

put them in the bag

IMG_5964.JPG

fill with water the slow cooker and put the bag

IMG_5965.JPG

I used black chicken because it is the most nutritious kind of poultry

IMG_5958.JPG

while the soup was cooking. I finally did the mini project that I had in my to-do list (for at least a year). Magazine clipping and organizing!!!

IMG_5971.JPG

All the articles that I want to save for later

IMG_5969.JPG

plastic page protector

IMG_5970.JPG

a cute binder

IMG_5975.JPG

and organizing!!!

IMG_5976.JPG

I even print out an index with the recipe names

IMG_5979.JPG

neat right?

IMG_5980.JPG

And when I finished with that I went shopping. Will post about it soon!

when I came home dinner was ready. It has three parts:

IMG_5988.JPG

steamed veggies & oyster mushroom with hoisin sauce

IMG_5989.JPG

the soup

IMG_5990.JPG

and steamed corn

IMG_5991.JPG

I had this combo three times in a row! Love it!!! 🙂

How was everyone’s week? It was a short one for me but it was a stressful one. It is not work related, but big-news related. I will reveal it very soon! 🙂

Q: Do you eat night snack? What do you have? I’ve been having cereals and coconut ice cream lately. Love them both but they make me bloat! 😦

Recipe: pound cake, chocolate “milk” and more

Last Friday, before Star came back I baked two mini pound cake for him. What a great wife I am! 😀

IMG_1525.JPG

Ingredients:

  • 100g butter (room temperature)
  • 100g flour
  • 70g sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 50g banana chips + almonds

IMG_1512.JPG

Beat sugar+butter+eggs until very puffy

IMG_1514.JPG

Soaked the banana chips with some warm milk, get rid of the milk and blend

IMG_1517.JPG

Pour the batter to two mini moldes

IMG_1522.JPG

bake at 350F for 35 min

IMG_1526.JPG

isn’t it pretty?

I made again the black chicken soup. Something that I want to comment about soup. In chinese culture, soup is not just food, but also a “medicine”. There is actually a word for that, 药膳,medicine food. It usually combines different ingredients that have medicinal values with everyday ingredients. The idea is heal or get healthier with daily food.

IMG_1541.JPG

For this soup, I added these: 黄芪 (radix astragali) to invigorate Qi, 当归 (Dongui) and red dates to build blood and dry shiitake.

IMG_1524.JPG

Stir-fry continued to be a staple for me. This one has broccoli, mushrooms, bamboo, green peppers and eggplant.

IMG_1538.JPG

Bok choy with smoked pork belly

IMG_1539.JPG

Star was working while I cooked and it was funny to see where he choice to do the conference call. 😉

IMG_1545.JPG

oh… that’s Charlotte from Sex and the City! Yes, I’m watching it for the 1000000 times!

IMG_1544.JPG

Another stir-fry: chinese mustard greens, red peppers, chinese yam and bean curd stick

IMG_1657.JPG

Yam noodles with chinese cabbage, black fungus, shiitake, dry shrimp and a poached egg.

IMG_1662.JPG

For breakfast I’ve been having these two combos:

#1 oatmeal cooked with chia gel and pumpkin puree

IMG_1552.JPG

I made some almond butter

IMG_1670.JPG

#2 pumpkin bread with AB

IMG_1675.JPG

with homemade chocolate milk.

IMG_1677.JPG

I love Almond Breeze Chocolate but I don’t buy it anymore. Why? Because although I love how it tastes, it’s not very nutritious. So I make my own bean milk (soy bean, black bean, aduki and mung bean) and add 1-2 tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder. Voila…. a nutritious bean milk!

Q: What’s your favorite cloth and shoe store/brand?
