What I Ate 2/12

Last Sunday I didn’t have long run for the first time in months because I had a 5k race later. I had time to prepare a proper breakfast and enjoyed it with the family, all excited about the upcoming race.

My oatmeal had banana, chia seeds, quinoa, topped with frozen berries and crunchy almond butter. Sooooo good and filling.

then we headed out for our pre-Valentine’s race. Sofia tag along together with my father in-law. After picking up the packet, both of us put the shirt to feel more festival.

The weather was  uncertain that day. We were afraid that it would start to rain right before the race Fortunately it hold up until after the race. I ran the same course 7 months ago and finished 3rd place in my age group with 26 min. This time I finished at 23’56”, a new PR!!! I ended up placing 25th in overall female runners, 4th on my age group. Tony finished about 30 min and kept complaining how the ups and downs ruined his chance to PR. So not true! The course was fantastic, more downhill than up hill. He’s just out of shape, but I’m glad that we run it together. Running with my loved one is the best way to celebrate Valentines.  I know he’s not naturally inclined to run, but he’s still running twice a week about 3 miles with me. I know he does it to make me happy, I really appreciate it. Just hope one day he get bite by runner’s kick and start running seriously for himself. One can always hope! 🙂

I made a stir-fry vermicelli for the family with minced pork and assorted vegetables, paired with a miso soup. They all enjoyed the meal a lot.

I was craving something spicy, so I heated up last portion of jamalaya. It freezes really well. Will definitely make it again.

after a nap for the whole family, we went to a friend’s party. Lizzy spent almost the entire 1.5 hrs eating puffs and berries. She didn’t even need us to be by her side as long as there was more food on her plate. People were passing by and found her so amusing.

and she loved playing with the little boy… kissing, hugging, pulling his hair.. opss…

the party had assorted appetizers and fruits. I had berries, cocktail shrimp and nuts. I’d rather spend the time chatting with friends than focusing on food.

Once home, I put both girls into sleep and had my evening snack to end a busy but fun day.

What I Ate – 2/4/17

It was my rest day from running. But I still got up at usual time and did strength training instead. HIIT is so challenging!!!

then I saw through the monitor that someone was up and playing already

after changing I went to see the family. They were already starting to have breakfast.

I joined them. I had toasts with LC, fried egg and goat cheese with blueberries. I think I’m approaching the borderline of getting sick of this combo. 🙂

Sofia and I went to indoor climbing, meeting with our friend Ruweri, climbing partner for few years already.

Sofia was not officially allowed to climb yet since kids need to weight close to 40lbs to be able to start, but Sofia was eager to test the water

and then it was my turn. Despite of not coming often, I was surprised that my body still remembers the movements and kept the fitness quite well. I managed to do several 5.8-5.9 routes without much problem.

then we went to bouldering area

and that was definitely challenging!!! It needed much more power than going up

after climbing, I took Sofia to her ballet class and did groceries. When returned home, we were starving. We had spaghetti with homemade Bolognese sauce made with grounded turkey. Simple but always tasty.

then it was nap time for the girls. Tony took his parents to the mall, and I did some work

when girls were up.. it was all playing with them. Lizzy loves standing up these days… and it is so funny to see a tiny person trying to move around

then we had a delicious dinner. I made baked lobster, salmon with onion, and my mother in law prepared some veggies to go along

after I put the girls to sleep. I enjoyed a cup of the chia pudding I made in the afternoon. It was amazing! Rich, decadent, and couldn’t tell that it was a healthy dessert.

Snuggled in bed before 10pm… excited for my long run the next day. 🙂

What I Ate: 1/29/17

I started my morning with a decaf coffee with Tj’s soy cream.

followed by a small bowl of oatmeal in preparation for my long run

whenever I go over 8 miles, I bring water and energy beans. Once I didn’t and I was miserable the rest of the day.

I enjoy Sunday long runs the most because I don’t need to rush to home. I run slowly. I don’t have a set number of miles to hit but a range. Today was anywhere between 10 to 12. I run with Tony for the first 3 miles, and then 9 miles by myself that went in a blink. 12 miles later, I felt energized, world was a better place. 🙂

First thing after I step in was to put the NUUN into a big glass of water.

then I stretched for 10 min, showered and put on compression socks. These are wonderful for after long run. The first time I tried it in the store, I couldn’t believe how well I felt after just 10 min. The calf I put it own felt 100 times better than the other one. Now I wear it for couple of hours after long runs.

During the run I thought about what I would have for post-run fuel. Something cold, sweet, indulging sounded appropriate. So I made a high protein smoothie bowl with frozen banana, berries, protein powder and coconut milk. As any smoothie bowl, the best part was toppings. I put some more berries, goji berries, coconut chips and PB. It hit the spot!!!

Tony left with his parents to do some shopping. I was by myself with the girls. Sofia was happily watching papa pig, her weekly treat, while snacking on some grapes.

meanwhile Lizzy took her nap so I had time to do meal preparation for the week. I had some veggies roasting

meal preparation was done. I prepared roasted Japanese sweet potato, ginger-soy roasted cauliflower and broccoli, and bakedtofu

Lizzy woke up around 12:15pm, perfect timing for lunch. Sister love!!!!

Sofia lunch consisted of two fried eggs, 1 pancake and frozen peas. She happily finished them all and had another pancake later.

Lizzy had pancakes too. I made those with breast milk, egg yolks and baby oatmeal. She prefers finger food over puree.

I gave her some green peas too and she loved them, kept putting more into her mouth.

I love having them alone sometimes because I feel that I am more engaged with them. Needless to say, they love having me focusing on them 100%.

after the girls went for nap. I finally sit down to have my lunch. I made for the first time Jimalaya with turkey sausage, vegetables and quinoa. Really filling and delicious meal that I can’t wait to play with other ingredients.

while the girls were sleeping, I worked on my side project for 2 hours straight while snacking on some high fiber cereal.

when girls were up from nap, Tony and in-laws came with a big shopping haul. I left them with Lizzy and took Sofia to buy some serving ware.

when we arrived, dinner was ready. We had bok choy, napa cabbage with egg dumplings, green beans, and a curry beef soup with tofu pockets.

after dinner, I nursed and put Lizzy down for the night

8pm, it was time for night routine. I accompanied Sofia to brush her teeth, bath, Pj.

9pm, I was in bed with a magazine and a ginger tea.

then Tony came. We chatted a bit and felt asleep before 10pm. It was a relaxing but productive day. Fully recharged for a busy week to follow.
