Yesterday I experimented something new to get Sofia nap better and it worked wonders! She took two 1.5 hrs naps in the morning, two naps in the afternoon (1.5 and 1) and one catnap of 15 min while we had dinner. She barely fuss, and when she was awake she was happy opening her eyes looking around! π
What did I do? Start the “nap routine” exactly an hour after she wakes up.Β For example: she woke up at 7am, I change her diaper and cloth for the day, wash her face, put the moisturize, feed her, hold her up for 10 min, then she was awake so we “played” (talking, walking around, sit in the bouncer). At 8, the nap routine started, go back to the nursery, swaddle her in swaddle me because her hands move a lot and it wakes her up, put her in the swing, turn on the white noise, give her the pacifier. She didn’t fall sleep right away and throw out the pacifier away and fuss a bit, I put it back. Like that few times which might took 10-20 min, and then she fell asleep and stayed asleep for 1-1.5 hrs.
Usually her first nap in the morning is really hard to get and I suspect it was because I was keeping her up too long by taking her to have breakfast with us, which passes the one hour mark.
After the first success, we continued, she was up at 10 am, we did the same thing within that hour and went for a walk at 11. She slept another 1.5 hrs!!!
My mom was soooo amazed and couldn’t believe it. I had to go to odontologist in the afternoon so I let mom to do the routine. And she did it again!!! That never happened before, she was always fighting for the first nap in the afternoon.
I really hope I found the missing piece of the nap-puzzle. We will try it again today, will report back! π
Our day started so well having Sofia taking nap after her breakfast. In order to make my meals less boring, I’m up to experiment new things, so I made paleo “oatmeal”
1/4 cup coconut flour, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/2 cup water, 2 egg whites, cinnamon. Cook everything except the egg whites for 3-4 min, add the egg whites and beat until they are cooked. Top it with almond butter.
I had high expectations because I love coconut flour, but unfortunately I didn’t like it at all, its consistency has nothing to do with oatmeal.
After feeding S again and seeing her face of having a “milk comma”, we went for our morning walk.
Back and still had 30 min before her feeding time (now she eats every 3-3.5 hrs during the day) so I made lunch
stir-fry spaguetti noodles with shrimp, zucchini, broccoli and onion, seasoned with soy sauce, miring, sesame oil and pinch of cayenne pepper.
I went to the odon to get two new sets of invisalign. 4 more sets and I’m done! π Went to Tj’s to get some dark chocolates and back home to hear that Sofia was taking nap! π I was so happy!!!
I let my mom take a nap and started reading a new book. Then did a quick workout and had dinner. My mom’s veggie & tofu soup
Night routine for Sofia and put her still awake at 8pm, she fell asleep at 8:02! π
She slept 10.5 hrs (4, 3, 3:30) and I slept 6.5 (waking up again at 3:30 with wet shirt!). The one thing that was different this morning is her 5 AM wake up, usually I give her pacifier and she refuses and fights to get back to sleep for 5-10 min. Today I didn’t feed her, simply transferred her to the swing, gave her the pacifier, she was awake but she fell asleep within 5 min without fuss. π Another progress!!!
I can’t tell you how GREAT I feel seeing how she’s progressing so well in the sleep front, and that I’m finally figuring things out!!! π
YAY for getting her nap routine working! Babies are so tricky sometimes, eh?? π
My mum has always mentioned how just a simple yawn or smile from us when we were babies would light up her day. She never see taking care of us as a chore or a job, she has always told me that having my brothers and I is the greatest blessing to her.
I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time, and I as I slowly witness you stepping into different stages in life: being married, then pregnant, and now a mother… it’s wonderful knowing that you treat Sofia with so much care and love, as well as how her well-doing delights you so much, I’m sure this entire raising kids up process is going to be journey worth riding.
Good luck with everything u do! Jia you, ni ke yi de ^^
Thank you!!! π

Hi Coco,
This sounds like a good routine. I will be sending my baby Benji to daycare in early December and am still working out a routine that will match the daycare/my work schedule.
When S wakes up, does she naturally wake-up at 1.5hr, or did you/your mom have to wake her up? Sometimes, my baby oversleeps during his naps (2 -3hr), and I don’t know whether I should wake him up from a morning or afternoon nap.

Linda, Sofia wakes up naturally after 1.5-2 hrs normally. If your baby sleeps longer that’s fine as long as he sleeps well at night, if not, then wake him up after 3 hrs. I suspect that he sleeps that long after being overtired. Does he always sleep 2-3 hours? Or only after being awake for long time?
