Food: homemade vegetarian buns

As I mentioned in my weekly update, my mom and I made some vegetarian buns and it was a total success!!!! Look how beautiful they are

the filling was made with chopped bok choy, chinese green 荠菜, shiitake mushroom and smoked tofu, salt and pinch of sugar.

for the dough I used the bread machine and this mix:

  • 1 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast

Choose the dough cycle. Once it’s done, separate de dough into 21 small balls

add the fillings

make the bun (my mom is an expert on making the prettiest buns! )

end product

let it rise in a warm place for 30 min, and steam for 20 min.

I either have one in the morning with oatmeal, or two with soy milk

delish~~~ 🙂

Q: Do you like buns? what’s your favorite filling?

  1. Delicious! I’ve never tried a Chinese bun like that…

  2. Oh my gosh! That dough! I just want to mash it in my face!

  3. YUM! I’ve never had a bun before, but I’m sure I would like one with ANYTHING inside! I especially love sausage, so I think I would have veggies and sausage in mine. Is that allowed?! They are so pretty!
