Food: soup and rice with friends

Last weekend I host a lunch at home inviting some old and new friends. I prepared something easy because the main action of that day was a mini ping-pong tournament! 🙂 It was a intense competition but Star remained his #1 position so far! 🙂

I prepared a soup

  • 1/2 big head of cabbage
  • 1 big onion
  • 2 carrots
  • 3 small potatoes
  • 1/2 lb. beef
  • 1 or 2 sausages
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour or potato starch
  • salt
1. chop all the veggies to bite size.
2. heat oil and butter, sautee onions for 5 min until golden. Add the rest of the veggies.
3. add tomato paste, diced tomatoes, sausage and beef. cook for 5 min.
4. fill the pot with water until cover all the ingredients and cook for 90 min at low.
5. add sugar, salt and potato starch mixed in water
I also made an easy rice stir-fry with egg, corns and green peas.

as dessert, someone brought a tiramisu cake

Love mixing with other cultures! 🙂

Q: What’s your to-go meal for hosting lunch/dinner?

  1. Your soup sounds great! I love easy meals when entertaining a crowd and often make chili in the slow cooker.

    Looks like you had fun!

  2. i usually roast chicken since it seems to be a safe meat for everyone to enjoy and always have a dense veggie side dish like a stuffed squash for vegetarian friends. you are quite the entertainer miss! looks fabulous and nate picked up a Tiramisù torte since my family is coming over for a late afternoon meal today!

  3. Lasagna and Caesar salad are my go to’s for dinner parties!

  4. Aww Star and Bobby have to play ping pong together!!

My go-to meal – either a grainy salad (like a grain mixed with corn, beans, veggies, meats, oil, lemon juice, spices) OR fried rice (Bobby makes the best fried rice).
