Girly: Hair evolution

First, notice that I’m adding a “category” before the title. I think from now on I’ll classify my posts the following way: Food for daily interesting eats, recipes, life for random thoughts or things that happen in life and girly for fashion/skincare/makeup posts. That way it helps me to find old posts and guide readers a little bit more.

Today I’ll talk about the evolution of my hair color and style, which you’ll see quite boring 😦

This photo was taken in 2001 and this is my all time style: ponytail. Until then I always kept my natural color: light black.

Then I cut it quite short.

BTW, this is my oldest friend, Ling. We’ve been close friends for 29 years old!!! 😯 I’m 30, so we know each other since we were 1 yr old. Woo!

A little bit longer and styled

2004 I turned to orange-brown.

As you can see, I don’t look good in short hair. But the color works for me.

2006 same color, same cut, styled

2007 I did highlights. Styled and dressed. I didn’t look like me.

mid-2007, I turned to red.

so basically I’ve been in two colors: orange/brown and red; and two styles, ponytail and loose.

2011. On Tuesday I was bored at home so I played with my hair for 2 hours.

and then I wanted to change the color. I haven’t done color since 2008, so it’s time for a change, a minor one.

Left (natural color), right (new color: chestnut)

the change is very minor, you won’t notice with these following two pics, but I do notice under the sun and light. More pic to come πŸ˜‰

I like this style but it takes a lot of work to maintain (I guess). I wash my hair every other day (can’t go longer because I workout almost everyday), so if I want to use it loose, I’d have to do brushing every other day. That’s a lot of work, right? How do you maintain your hair? Any tip for speedy brushing?

  1. I think I might go blonde! I was blonde when I was little and as I grew older my hair got darker and darker. But now that it’s almost spring I am in the mood for a change πŸ™‚

  2. Love your “girly” category! πŸ™‚ Your hair is gorgeous!

I’m really lazy when it comes to my hair. I really don’t like to spend a lot of time on it, but it’s naturally wavy, especially in the back, so I have to spend some time to blow dry it straight, or it doesn’t look good…

  3. You have GREAT hair Coco!! I love it. I like how you have it in that up-do in the last set of photos, it looks great on you. The color looks nice too. You know, I’ve never EVER dyed my hair. I get it permed (straight), which tends to make it dry, so coloring it would ruin it. I have thought about getting it colored at Aveda, because I know they use non-drying products, but I’m nervous!! My mom keeps telling me I should color it. Maybe this year will be the year πŸ™‚

  4. Your blog is really cute! I love it!
Follow me? I’ll be very happy if you do it! Thank you so much!

  6. ooo i love it!! you only look good with brown hair because you’re so fair! it’s my problem too!

i need to start styling my hair too!

  7. I am seriously impressed with all your hair changes. I am so not a risk taker when it comes to hair, long and curly 99 percent of the time!

  8. I LOVE your hair post! Oh my gosh this was fun! I have those same set of rollers but when I use them my hair looks nowhere near as beautiful as yours πŸ™‚ You did a fabulous job! I love the low side pony! Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous girl!

  9. Your hair is beautiful. It looks so soft! Mine is “brush and go”. Anything that takes more than 5-10 minutes is too much for me! LOL
