Cooking failure

I’ve had many successes making breads like baguette, dinner rolls and the key is to FOLLOW the RECIPE! I’ve learned that lesson a long time ago, but the other day I wanted to improvise as I like when cooking meals and it was a DISASTER!!! 😦 Changing recipes in cooking is different than baking, specially breads!!! There’s a lot of chemistry going on there for some unknown reasons.. Β Anyway… I wanted to make some WW rolls but substitute 1/3 of the flour by barley and soy bean flour. After “fermenting” for 2 hours.. the thing didn’t rise much

hoping for the best, I baked them anyway and they didn’t rise at ALL πŸ˜₯

I also steamed some of them, hoping miracles to happen but obviously miracles do not exist 😦

although the texture is not that bad πŸ˜‰

so I had two of them paired with avocado and LC as breakfast πŸ™‚

and peach of course πŸ˜‰

lesson learned Follow the recipe!

I did follow Heather’s recipe to make these coconut flour pancakes and they came out beautifully πŸ˜‰

topped with Tj’s cottage cheese

mmmm….. soooo good! I can eat these EVERYDAY!!! πŸ˜†

A new thing that I tried yesterday for breakfast was steamed sweet potato topped with avocado-cottage

Life rants: This is my last week at the internship and wrapping up is hectic!!! 😦 I’ve been working until 8PM every night! 😯 Soooo exhausting! I’m glad that it’s going to end soon and I’ll be back working at home again! Well…. I used to complain about it, but now I’m kind of miss the freedom πŸ™‚

  1. I made black beans burgers last night and really didn’t follow the recipe very well. They didn’t turn out very good, but Nick was good at pretending to like them πŸ™‚ Recipes are not my favorite, but sometimes they are 100% necessary (as you said, it’s especially important when baking)! I’m glad your rolls still tasted ok, even if they didn’t “rise to their full potential”.

  2. Last cooking failure? Baked potato chocolate pudding…I still ate it, but it was kind of weird. Definitely needs some tweaking!

So sorry the rolls didn’t rise Coco, but honestly, they still look delicious, especially when paired with avocado…loving all the avocado combos by the way!

I was relieved to read that the coconut pancakes were not part of the “cooking failure” of this post. So happy you enjoyed. It’s been months since I’ve made those, and I think I will be buying more coconut flour very soon! πŸ™‚

  3. i’ll take ur word for it but i must say they dont look like a failure!! ive never tried making these but i imagine it would be quite hard and Coco i think u managed it as best u could and we’ll just pretend they were fabulous hehe ❀

last fail for me was when i made a wrap and accidently poured a heaping amount of nutmeg on it thinking i grabbed the chili spice jar lol. FAILLL haha

  4. although it was a recipe flop, they still look yummy!

my last cooking failure was last night! i tried to make an omelette but it fell to pieces without a spatula to get it out. like you though, i still ate it since i knew it would at least still taste good!

oh many disasters! i always get too greedy by always adding way too many ingredients!

  7. I actually think the rolls look delicious, even though they didn’t rise as hoped. That sweet potato combo sounds incredible!

  8. haha well you can’t always judge a dish by how it looks! I SUCK at making pancakes and even though yesterday I managed to make some that tasted delicious they were, in fact, terrible looking.

  9. Ooh, I bet cottage cheese and avocado is a phenomenal combination!!

  10. It’s getting hectic for me, too. I hope you stay cool, Coco!

Yeah, when it comes to baking, it’s best to stick to the damn recipe. That’s why I’m not so enamored with baking anymore.

  11. I did the same thing… I didn’t follow the recipe in my recent bread recipe, and the bread is like…..stone!

  12. I think I don’t bake a lot because I just “can’t” (or won’t) follow any recipe… πŸ™‚

Last cooking failure? Cornbread that turned out too dry…

    Have a great weekend!

  13. sorry your rolls didn’t turn out! i’m a huge fan of improvising as well, so i understand how you feel. πŸ™‚

my last cooking failure?! ahh, i feel like there are so many…i just don’t always post about them on the blog. πŸ™‚

  14. the bread still looks good! but i understand how frustrating it can be to improvise on recipes and place hope on it and then not have it turn out! grr!

  15. yay the week is over! I hope you get to relax a bit – you deserve it!
Baking is so critical.. Especially bread! It also matters what kind of flour you choose. Cooking is so much easier but I love whipping up some muffins, breads and other baked goods every once in a while.

  16. Sad days about the bread… but great for the coconut pancakes! I don’t try to make up recipes… they always fail me

  17. Sorry your buns didn’t work out!! Boo!!! I haven’t had any cooking failures in awhile. I’m sure my turn’s coming, though…
