An Award and a Giveaway!


I’m so excited to receive the Healing Hearts Awards, hosted by Nature Made and nominated by Maggie (who is one of the original 5 winners).

Nature Path launched “Healing Hearts Club” this month. They’ve found five bloggers who play a major role in educating their readers about overall health, including maintaining a healthy heart. We’re offering this award to these bloggers because they exemplify everything that it means to not only teach healthy ways of living, but also do so in a fun and uplifting way. Each of these bloggers will receive a heart healthy package to use for themselves, as well as one to give away.

CholestOff

What is it? – A combination of plant sterols and stanols, which have been shown to help lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels when used in conjunction with proper diet and exercise.

What are the benefits? – CholestOff has been shown to lower cholesterol naturally and may help to prevent heart disease.

Fish Oil

What is it? – Omega 3 – Fatty acids found in fish oil. Omega – 3 fatty acids have been shown to have cardio-protective benefits.

What are the benefits? – Fish oil may reduce the risk of heart disease later in life. In addition, omega-3 fatty acids have shown the potential to help maintain triglyceride levels already in the normal range.

How does it work? – The two primary omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These fatty acids can be beneficial to heart health when added to a nutritional diet.

CoQ10

What is it? – Coenzyme Q10 – A compound that is involved in energy production and can support heart muscle strength.

What are the benefits? – CoQ10 is also a powerful antioxidant, which works in conjunction with Vitamin E to help the body resist free radical damage.

How does it work? –CoQ10 is an electron carrier in the mitochondria, or energy-producing part of the cell. Therefore, CoQ10 is necessary for energy production in the body.

    For my heart health I try to not use too much sugar, and I work out regularly 🙂

  3. i attempt exercise 4-5x a week & believe that everyday diet is the key to a healthy heart! we really are what we eat! p.s. you’re on my blogroll

  4. I eat a limited amount of meat, and keep my protein choices lean. I also eat lots of green vegetables, plenty of fiber, and healthy sources of fats (nuts, fish, avocados, etc.). I think diet is a very important ingredient staying heart-healthy!

  5. thanks for the info on CoQ10. i have been hearing more and more about it but have not really known why i should take it.

    p.s. sorry to be MIA from your comments this week. i’ve been doing a lot of reading from my phone and it is such a hassle to comment from that thing!

    anywho~ for my entry.. i exercise 6x a week! that is heart healthy!

  12. To take care of my heart, I eat plenty of unsaturated fats while limiting my sodium intake. I also run 6 days a week.

  13. I work out to build cardiovascular endurance. I think it’s important to exercise the heart for sure. I know tons of people who “lift weights” but couldn’t run a mile without dying!

    For my heart health I get in some form of vigorous exercise at least 4 days a week.

    when I’m not injured (…) I run around 6 times/week. My resting heartrate is pretty low from being a runner, so it must be doing some good!

  22. aw what a wonderful award! i take care of my heart by getting moderate cardio exercise in most days of the week. whether it’s on a bike, elliptical, treadmill, or outside – it should be fun!
