Product review: Doctor Krackers
They sent me a big selection of their products and I had a mini-tasting session yesterday. First some background information about the company. What I like to read about a company is how it was founded:
In Germany, homeland to founders Klaus Karg and Carsten Kruse, flatbreads are a staple in the best bakeries. In fact, it was in his own grandfatherโs bakery in Schwabach that co-founder (Dr.) Klaus Karg began experimenting with cracker recipes in 1997. His goal was to bridge the gap between austere Swedish flatbreads and flavorful specialty breads, and finally, through a focused blend of trial, error, and inspiration, he did it. And, with such winning flatbread combinations as the Emmental Cheese Pumpkin Seed, Seeded Spelt and Klassic 3-Seed crackers, in 2000, he began producing delicious flatbread crackers under the company name of Dr. Karg.
That same year, George Eckrich set out on a mission of his own: to introduce these substantial and wholesome flatbread crackers to his homeland, the good old US of A. This quest ultimately sent him to Germany, where a mutual friend introduced him to Klaus, who was immediately impressed with Georgeโs trustworthiness and enthusiasm for marketing the flatbreads in the United States. And, a partnership was formed.
Okidoki, show time!
Product: Apple Crisps
Description: Chopped dried apple, toasted whole oats, and crunchy flax and sesame seeds. A sprinkling of natural cane sugar just before baking gives these spelt crackers an engaging caramelized finish.
Coco’s take: I really like this one because it’s crunchy, lightly sweetened with a gentle flavor of apple. 4/5.
Product: Cherry Semolina
Description: Plump sour cherries, golden semolina flour and toasted sesame seeds. The delicious contrast of dark/light, chewy/crisp, and toasty/sweet makes these crackers endlessly (and irresistibly!) versatile.
Coco’s take: this one is just okay. I can’t taste much cherry and probably because I don’t think it’s a great flavor for a cracker.2/5.
Product: Seedlander
Description: Millet-crunchy and molasses-sweet, our Seedlander Kracker is baked with our specially milled, 100% whole grain organic spelt flour, combined with organic pumpkin seeds, millet, sesame, flax, and poppy seeds. Its sturdy texture and nutty, slightly sweet flavor make it the perfect cracker for cheese and fruit plates and creamy dips and spreads.
Coco’s take: for a big fan of seeds like me, simply the name of it convinced me that it must be good and it was indeed. Lightly salty, crunchy and interesting when you chew it because of the variety of seeds in it! 4/5.
Product: Hummus Maximum
Description: Made with a blend of garbanzo bean and spelt flours, these hearty crackers are flavored with lemon peel, garlic, sesame seeds, and just enough coriander to intrigue your palate. Excellent with soft cheeses, fresh fruit, and creamy spreads. (Including, of course, fresh hummus!)
Coco’s take: another just okay one. I’d prefer to make real hummus to dip with. 2/5.
Product: Seeded Spelt
Description: Rich, buttery organic sunflower seeds blend fantastically with nutty, earthy organic sesame seeds. Organic spelt flour provides a slightly sweeter flavor than usual wheat flour, making this extra crisp cracker especially delicious all by itself or (George says) with peanut and almond butters, jam or marmalade.
Coco’s take: Definitely my favorite one from this large selection! I think the reason is the addition of sesame seeds and extra saltiness than the others. Great to just eat it plain! ๐ 5/5.
Product: Fire roasted crisp
Description: Tart sundried tomatoes and rich sweet potatoes, blended with black sesame seeds, chili peppers and organic cheddar cheese.
Coco’s take: The least favorite one. I just don’t like a cracker to have too much and too strong flavor. 1/5.
Product: Klassic 3 seed flatbreads
Description: In Germany, flax, sunflower, and sesame seeds are a classic mix for crusty breakfast rolls. Our cracker version of this old-world staple, with its distinct, nutty flax flavor, is an excellent base for nut butters, cheeses, avocado, and deli meats.
Coco’s take: I’m not a big fan of flatbreads because they tend to be too dry like a cardboard, but this one is not because of the addition of seeds. Although it’s higher in calorie values than standard flatbreads, these can be eaten plain when the standards one can not. 3/5.
Product: Pumpkin cheddar
Description: We toast this cracker while itโs baking to coax the โwowโ out of those delicious organic pumpkin seeds, and to get that the most out of that unique, extra-crispy toasted cheddar flavor. Absolutely delicious.
Coco’s take: It’s a weird flavor mix for me. 2/5.
Product: Sunflower cheddar
Description: The warm, nutty flavor of organic sunflower seeds are an excellent foil for sharp cheddar cheese in this crispy, crunchy spelt flour cracker. Fantastic with creamy cheese spreads, whole grain mustard, avocado, and tangy tampanades. An excellent alternative to croutons in salads!
Coco’s take: Personally I just don’t like the mix of seeds and cheese. 2/5.
Overall, I think their products are authentic, healthy, short list of ingredients (all organic), great snack and/or dip crackers if you like really crunchy ones. I will definitely buy it in the future, specially that seeded spelt. ๐
Now, the exciting part: George offer to send FOUR packs of their products and a cute storage tin to FOUR of my readers.

Great review of the crackers. Well, I guess I’m boring, but my favorite way to eat crackers is with cheese. I just LOVE cheese… I love making a nice presentation though for such an easy snack/appetizer. I usually add half a cherry tomato and basil or a nice chutney to make it a bit more interesting. Oh, these crackers would go SOOOOO nicely with all my cheese! ๐
Have a great weekend!
Favorite flatbread combo: cream cheese or goat cheese, smoked salmon, capers, and red onion!

Glad to hear that the insurance came through for you.
I’m pretty boring when it comes to crackers. I just like them plain…
I have tried Doctor Krackers(on sale at Amazon) and can’t believe you gave the Klassic Three Seed only 3/5! They are my favorite cracker in the whole wide world! I give them a 5/5 and eat them with nut butters the most(Peanut, almond & sunflower), but a good bowl of soup, Dr Kracker’s, and some good cheese is very tasty meal. It is just a matter of ones own taste cause I don’t think I would like the ones with the fruit either, but I will try anything once! The tin is a good idea cause it is hard to store them once you open the foil like package. Great giveaway, thanks
Love the looks of those nutrition labels–so healthy and simple! I had no idea that Dr. Kracker made sweet varieties too.
I love my crackers with hummus and sliced tomato.
I like to smear my cracker with hummus and top the hummus with a little cheddar!
Lite Cream cheese and smoked salmon on my flatbreads. Yum.
You are on my blogroll.
I tend to eat crackers plain b/c I snack on them pretty mindlessly. When I am motivated to get a topping, I love hummus or nut butters.
hahah you didn’t seem to love most of them huh?? I would have to say my favorite combo with crackers is jam and peanut butter. Sweet and savory on a mild-flavored cracker is awesome! However, I also like more flavorful crackers with hummus. YUMMMM.

Crackers with cheddar cheese is the best!
I love crackers with smoked salmon dip!!
A wonderfully tasty cracker for people who want lots of crunch and flavor without compromising on ingredients. It’s VERY crunchy and you can’t just scarf them down. They require nice healthy chewing. The reward is the tastiest organic cracker I’ve ever had. The whole family loves them – best with nut butters, jams, spreads or topped with cheese. Two crackers with toppings make a satisfying snack or small meal.
